When patients want to change the look of their smile or achieve an entire smile makeover, adding veneers is one cosmetic dentistry solution available to them. Veneers cover the teeth to create new shape, alignment and brightness to each tooth and the entire smile.
Our team of dentists at Linworth Family Dental is happy to make veneers available to our patients. This is one of the ways we help our community members achieve their smile goals, and it can solve numerous complaints patients have about their teeth.
What Are Veneers?
Veneer is a fancy word to describe thin shells that we attach to the front of your teeth to cover them. Traditional porcelain veneers offer a beautiful aesthetic that resembles natural teeth yet provides the flawless shape and alignment you may desire.
These covers are very thin, and our team of dentists can use them to fix numerous tooth concerns. They go over tooth blemishes, cracks, gaps, chips and discoloration, providing a perfect porcelain shell on top.
We can customize veneers to fit the shape and size of the rest of your teeth, as well as match them to the shade of your surrounding teeth. You may choose to whiten the rest of your teeth in advance.
How Does the Veneer Process Work?
Our team uses our advanced dental technology to create images of your teeth that inform the creation of your custom veneers. One of our dentists removes a small amount of enamel from the front surface of the teeth to prepare them for attaching the veneers. This quick, painless process helps the shells attach to the teeth and makes the veneers flush with the surrounding teeth.
While we wait the few weeks it generally takes for the veneers to be complete, we provide temporary veneers in the meantime. After we receive the permanent ones made to the specifications of your mouth, Dr. Whittaker, Dr. Glasgow or Dr. Soungpradith places them, adjusts them if needed and bonds them to your natural teeth with a dental glue that holds them permanently in place.
Are Veneers Better Than Bonding?
Dental bonding is another option for fixing minor imperfections with a tooth, such as gaps or cracks. Nonetheless, bonding and veneers are quite different. Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored resin material that our dentists mold to fill chips, cover discoloration, change the shape of a tooth and so on. We harden it with a curing light.
Bonding provides an easier, more affordable solution, yet it is not as durable as veneers. The hard shells are made of professional-quality porcelain, which is strong, long-lasting and has a more natural appearance.
